Yes, yes, we agree. Coffee is the super fuel to your superhero lifestyle. Just add hot water to ground magic beans and you have an instant potation that wakes you up and sends you catapulting through space and time onto your daily missions. Now what if you could pack more punch into your cup? What if you could fuel your body and get healthier with every sip? Here are 3 ways to supercharge your brew.
Add fat. Adding fat to your coffee is delicious. We absolutely agree, but it’s not the only reason to do so. Adding fat can help fuel your body and brain while curbing the caffeine crash. Some fats like Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) help your body absorb the nutrients in coffee, like caffeine, while mitigating the glucose spike often caused by these nutrients. This delivers a sustainable energy without the huge crash. Since our brains can utilize fat for energy adding fat can help with that focus boost. Don’t like the creamy taste? No problem. Our Mammoth Plus with added MCT gives you that rich, black coffee flavor with a little fat to next level your cup. If you do like that cream in your coffee, go ahead and blend in your favorite fat like MCT, Nut Milk, Heavy Cream or coconut cream. We don’t generally opt for milk because most milk has sugar, is low fat, and is inflammatory to a lot of people. However, if you are good with dairy, consider using a raw cream or half and half. Hint, if you order a “breve” latte at your local coffee spot, they'll make your drink with half and half.
Add collagen protein. Protein powder in coffee has been a trend for a while but new collagen products have made this is power house drink additive better than ever. Keep in mind some proteins are unable to withstand heat, so be aware that not all protein products mix equally. Here are a couple of our faves:
Primal Kitchen Collagen Protein makes one of the best blended consistencies if you are going for a mocha or vanilla flavor. Its velvety and thick texture is so satisfying, it’s like having a dessert.
Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want added flavor in their drink. It blends well and thickens things up a bit without residual flavor. They even make a coffee creamer packet specifically for hot coffee drinks specifically (this one does have flavor).
Add sea salt. A pinch of sea salt adds minerals to your morning brew. A minimal amount will not make it salty but may often enhance some of the flavor compounds. The minerals will help you stay hydrated because they are electrolytes. FYI - You will also have to drink water for that hydration to happen, though. You can’t survive on coffee alone. Trust us, we tried it ourselves, and the mix of caffeine overload and hangry emotions almost caused a Kahbib/McGregor type situation. Maybe that explains what happened?
Want to try all three? GREAT! You can combine them all at once to create a delicious beverage. Here is a quick way to whip it all together.
